A watershed is a part of land that water flows across. The watershed that we live by is Long Lake Regina Beach Water is very important to me because we would die from being dehydrated. For example watersheds provide animals and people fresh water. Everything really, needs water to survive. It is also important because it keeps me and my clothes clean. A watershed separates the land it can be a river, lake, stream, creek, or it can be a wetland. Canada has five min watersheds which is the Arctic, Atlantic, Hudson Bay, and the Pacific.
There are open systems which means the water can flow into the ocean, and closed systems mean that the water can only escape the watershed by evaporation, or by seeping through the earth. The shape of a watershed will contribute speed. Soil type will help determine how much of the water will reach the river. Sandy soils are very free draining, the rain that lands on the sandy soil is most likely to be absorbed by the ground.
Watersheds help us by supporting industries, helping us get our drinking washing water. Anything that happens on the land can affect the watersheds, motor oil, road salt, and fertilizers. We can help the watersheds and protect it: Planting trees and plants they are important to watershed because they protect this land from rotting, reduce water temperatures, and sometimes even clean the watershed’s water. Do not pour any chemicals into a watershed, clean up the garbage that is on the ground, and to clean up after our pets.
